Kathmandu . Covid vaccine is scheduled to start in Nepal on January 30. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the campaign will be launched on August 30. In the first phase, health workers will be vaccinated. One million vaccines donated by India were brought to Nepal on Thursday. About four and a half lakh people will be affected in June.
It has not been decided who will be the next priority after the health workers. After health workers, security personnel are likely to be the priority. The security forces have shown interest in the vaccine as Kovid has not received the risk allowance.
A meeting was also held at the Ministry of Health on Wednesday with the representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the vaccine. Home Secretary Shalikram Sharma Poudel was present on the occasion. According to Poudel, an initiative has been taken to make security personnel the first priority. Vaccination is currently the first priority for health workers and social workers. After that, it has not been decided whether to vaccinate the senior citizens or not.
Even if security personnel are given priority, there has been a discussion about putting them on the field and putting them on the list of those who will be vaccinated. “A database of 500,000 people is being prepared,” said Joint Secretary Poudel. “We are discussing who will be in it after the health workers.” Despite the decision to give it to the security personnel, not everyone will get it. Those with other diseases and many older people are being put on the priority list.
